Autumn 1 - Week 3-5

This term we have been learning all about Ourselves and our Families. We have been talking about what we look like, making comparisons to others of our similarities and differences. We have had discussions about our likes and dislikes. We also talked about our families. Who lives in our family and invited a few parents to bring their babies into Nursery for the children to have a look at and ask questions about babies and how they grow.

In Maths, we have been learning about shapes and patterns. We created different patterns using shapes and natural objects.

In literacy the story we have read the stories Silly Billy and Mixed. The children have been exploring different emotions and talked about how they feel.

As part of our RE learning, we visited our local Church. The children asked questions about the Church and talked about what happens inside the church. We have been leaning about God's creation, how we should take care of God's creation and to celebrate God's creation.

Autumn 1 2025 Week 1-3 Settling in.

The last few weeks, the children have been settling into Nursery. Most of the children have settled in well. They have been busy playing, exploring and making friendships. 

Week 1-3 Settling in at Nursery

We had a visit from Ellie and Caitlin, our local PCSOs!

Week 6

The children enjoyed the stay and play afternoons this week. Thank you to the family members who came and played with the children. The children particularly enjoyed dancing with you all on the stage outside. We continued learning about the story ‘The Dot’. The children came up with their own ideas of what they could make a ‘dot’ into. We had lots of ideas including a flower, dinosaur and an egg!

On Wednesday, the pre-school children had lots of fun playing on the soft play. They bounced on the bouncy castle, played on the bikes and with all the other toys in the hall. Over the past few weeks, the children have shown lots of interest in working in the Police when they grow up! On Thursday, we arranged a special visit from Ellie and Caitlin, our local PCSOs. They talked to the children all about working in the Police. She showed the children their uniforms and the children even tried some hats and jackets on.

This week we have also been learning about the Artist Kandinsky. The Art work is based around circles. The children enjoyed printing with circles, making large Art using circles on the floor and drawing circles.

We can’t believe next week is the last week before we break up for the Summer holidays. We are looking forward to a final week of fun in Nursery and celebrating the wonderful year we have had together. We are also looking forward to our graduation ceremony for pre-school children on Wednesday, where we will celebrate all the older children before they start school in September.

Fun Valley fun!

Week 5

The children have had another busy and fun week in Nursery. They enjoyed listening to the story ‘The Dot’. We have completed lots of fun Phonics games learning about rhyming words and initial sounds.

One lunch time, the children were very excited when Mr FitzGibbon came to play with us. The children showed him our tadpoles and enjoyed listening to a story.

We enjoyed dancing with Claire Bear on Wednesday. The pre-school children practised the dance and the other children enjoyed dancing with ribbons. We have also been learning a hymn and poem, ready for graduation. In PE, we completed 5 different stations, focussing on the moving in different ways and throwing and catching.

In Collective Worship, we learnt about the creation story and Adam and Eve. In Maths, we have been solving siple real life problems using numbers 1 to 5. We pretended to be on a bus and added people on and then took them away.

Week 5 fun!

Week 4

This week, the children enjoyed listening to a story all about the circus. We continued talking about occupations and different jobs people have in the circus. The children enjoyed watching a video of the circus - they especially enjoyed the acrobat!

In PE, we completed 5 different stations of different activities. We pretended to be at the circus. The children walked on a rope, balanced on a bench, threw bean bags and pretended to spin cones. The children all tried hard with getting dressed and undressed. In RE, we sat in a circle and took part in collective worship. We talked about how we can be kind to each other. The children shared their ideas.

In Maths, we have been learning about 3D shapes. The children learnt the names of the shapes and talked about different properties. We made shape pictures using the 3D shapes. We have also been doing fine motor activities and practising writing our names.

Week 3

On Wednesday, the pre-school children took part in Sports Day. They completed lots of different stations including races, egg and spoon, hurdles, javelin, bean bag throw and an obstacle course. The children were fantastic at all the different activities and we all really enjoyed the morning. Thank you for coming to watch your child! I have uploaded some photographs below.

In RE, we talked about different people who work in the church such as the priest, flower arranger, readers, choir, altar servers. The children made their own church on the carpet in groups using the blocks and different materials. Some children thought of some questions they could ask Father Doyle about church.

In Maths, the children have been learning all about 2D shapes. They enjoyed going on a shape hunt outside and used chalk to draw shapes on the playground. They also looked at different shape pictures and used mathematical language to describe the different shapes. We talked about sides and corners and spotted the differences.

We have also been learning about different occupations. We talked about what we wanted to be when we grow up. The children drew a picture of a job and played a matching game. We also learnt the word ‘occupation.’

Pre-school Children Sports Day 2025

We found a wasp nest in Nursery in our outdoor shed - ask your child to tell you all about the nest an we found. A man came and safely removed it.

Week 2

We have had another busy week in Nursery! The children enjoyed making Father’s day cards throughout the week and told us all about what makes their daddy special! We have also been celebrating Healthy Eating Week. In our key worker groups, the children enjoyed talking about and tasting different fruits. We use our fantastic cutting skills to make a fruit face and made a healthy plate of food on Thursday.

In Maths, we have been learning about weight and capacity. The children enjoyed weighing objects using scales and comparing which object is heavier or lighter. We have also been filling and emptying containers and using the language full, empty and half full.

In RE, we have been learning all about St Paul and how he become Jesus’ friend. He went blind and Jesus performed a miracle and made him see again. The children made puppets of St Peter and St Paul and acted the story.

In PE, the pre-school children got changed for the first time. They were amazing at getting dressed and undressed! Please continue to support your child to do this at home too when getting dressed! When we were ready, we then enjoyed practising the different events ready for Sports Day next week. The children particularly liked the egg and spoon race!

Summer 2 – Week 1

We have had a fantastic week back in Nursery. The children enjoyed telling us all about what they did over half term. Our core story for the next 2 weeks is Giraffes can’t Dance. The children enjoyed listening to the story and talking about their favourite safari animals. They also learnt some facts and printed a giraffe. We made a fact file all about giraffes and coloured in pictures.

In Maths, we have been learning about long and short. The children enjoyed ordering objects and talking about length and size. They compared objects and found the longest and shortest.

In RE, we learnt about St Peter. St Peter is a fisherman and he follows Jesus. He is Jesus’ friend. The children enjoyed making boats. They decided how they wanted to make a boat. Some children made them out of Lego, some used junk modelling and some children drew a picture of a boat.

The children worked hard in PE and dance this week. We continued learning a dance for graduation. In PE, we travelled around the hall in different ways and play ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’ We also practiced some of the activities for Sports day.

Week 5

We have had a fantastic final week of the half term.

On Wednesday, the children enjoyed dressing up for fantasy day. We made crowns, wands and watched sleeping beauty. We also listened to the story The Gingerbread Man and made stick puppets from the story. The children enjoyed playing in our fantasy world area with a castle and lots of fantasy characters.

In Phonics, some of the children have been learning about syllables. They enjoyed clapping the syllables in their name and other words. See if they can clap the syllables in their name at home. Our core story this week is called ‘How to grow a Unicorn.’

In Maths, we have been learning all about routes, direction and positional language. The children enjoyed following a route over in school. They found pictures of fantasy characters around school.

Week 4

We have continued our learning all about Space. The children continued to make their own rockets using recycled materials. We also pretended to go into Space and learnt all about the different planets. The children enjoyed cutting different planets and using chalk to make their own pictures of Space. The children enjoyed completing lots of different Space activities in their key worker groups.

In Maths, we have been learning all about subitising. This means recognising amounts without counting. We continued reading the story Aliens love Underpants. The children thought of different rhyming words and helped to remember the missing words in the story.

In PE, the children thought about the different senses and moved in different ways around the hall. The preschool children worked hard with Claire Bear in dance on Wednesday to learn a dance for graduation.

In collective worship with Mrs Patel, the children thought about how we can help the poor and vulnerable by learning to share our toys and food so everyone has enough. The children enjoyed a quiet circle time where they talked about sharing.

Reminder: Next week on Wednesday 21st May we are having a Fantasy Day. All the children can dress up as their favourite fantasy character.

Week 3

Yesterday, we celebrated VE day in Nursery. The children looked fantastic wearing red, white and blue. We watched a video to help us learn all about VE day. We sang songs, made bunting and medals, paraded around the track outside and even decorated biscuits. We also played some running races with Reception class.

Our core story for the next 2 weeks is Aliens love underpants. The children really enjoyed listening to the story and doing lots of fun activities. The children made fantastic rockets using junk modelling. We played matching games with underpants and learnt an alien song.

In Maths, we played matching games with the underpants and hung them on the washing line. In RE, we learnt all about the Holy Spirit. The children carefully cut out flames and stuck them on large pieces of paper.

Week 2

We have had another great week in Nursery. This week, the children enjoyed continuing our learning about Oliver’s Vegetables. We talked about what different foods are made from potatoes. The children enjoyed helping to make some delicious chips. They carefully peeled and chopped the potatoes and enjoyed eating them at the end of the day.

We enjoyed listening to the story Jack and the Beanstalk. We cut lots of green leaves out of paper and made a giant beanstalk. The children tried hard with their cutting and decorating the leaves. The children asked to paint a giant for the display. We drew round one of the children on a big piece of paper and the children painted the giant with Mrs Harrison. 

In PE, we continued focussing on fundamental skills. The children enjoyed balancing bean bags on different body parts and moving in different ways. The children also enjoyed dancing with Claire and playing lots of fun games with the parachute.

In Maths, we have been focussing on numbers 1 to 5. We played lots of games to help the children recognise numbers 1 to 5. It would be great if you could stick numbers 1 to 5 around your house and ask your child to try and find them to help recognise the numbers.

Don’t forget, next week we will be celebrating VE day on Thursday. All the Nursery children can come to school wearing red, white and blue. Have a great weekend!

Summer 1 – Week 1

Welcome back! We hope you all had a fantastic Easter with your families. We are looking forward to a busy but exciting Summer term. What a fantastic first week we have had! The sun has been shining and the children have had lots of fun.

We enjoyed listening to the story Oliver’s Vegetables and learning all about vegetables. We used vegetables to print patterns and make repeated patterns. We also learnt a song and dance all about vegetables. On Wednesday, we made some delicious vegetable soup. The children helped to chop and peel the different vegetables and enjoyed eating it in the afternoon.

Yesterday, we found a box in nursery with some magic beans. We talked about what we could do with them and decided to plant them. We learnt a song with the instructions for how to plant seeds.

In Maths, we learnt all about repeating patterns. We made lots of repeating patterns using cubes and objects around the classroom. Some children even found objects from outside to make patterns with. See if your child can make a repeating pattern at home.

In RE, we learnt that Jesus went up into heaven. We talked about what heaven might be like and some children drew fantastic pictures of what they think heaven might look like.
The preschool children had fantastic skills in PE. We focussed on running at different speeds, changing direction and jumping.
